A cleaning schedule that survives a bad week.

A printable cleaning system that tells you which room today, what still counts on a hard day, and how to get back on track after you miss one.

The checklist was never the problem. Starting again after a missed day is.

The planner assumes you will miss days. The reset is small enough to survive a bad week, the rotation never asks you to catch up, and the minimum day gives you something that still counts.

How the method works

Five layers, each catching what the one above it misses, so nothing depends on a heroic Saturday.

1

Daily reset

15 minutes that keeps surfaces, dishes and the drop zone from piling up.

2

Weekly rotation

Each room gets its weekly jobs on its own day. Room a day, zone weeks or split days, chosen with a three question rule.

3

Monthly and seasonal

One deep clean a month, and the behind, under and inside jobs planned a few hours a quarter.

4

Safety net

A minimum day for days when nothing else is possible, and missed day recovery so you never have to catch up.

Start small: Week one is only three things: choose your rhythm, write your 15 minute reset, and write your minimum day.

The rhythm

Three ways to schedule the week

Room a day, zone weeks or split days, each with defaults filled in and a decision rule for choosing one. Pick one for a month before you judge it.

  • Room a day: the default most homes start with
  • Zone weeks: one zone gets 20 extra minutes a day
  • Split days: for long working days

60 jobs, each with a minimum version

Every job has how often, the smaller version for a busy week, and a line for who owns it. Cross out, rename or add.

  • Kitchen and dining, bathrooms, bedrooms, living areas and entry, laundry and outdoor
  • A monthly deep clean rotation
  • Seasonal and yearly jobs, each given a month

The household

Ask for ownership, not help

Sharing the work: a fairness check for adults, jobs for children and teens by age, and a roommate agreement for shared homes.

  • Children and teens by age
  • Roommate agreement
  • Supplies inventory and safe storage

Worked example

One full week, already filled in

A completed week and its Sunday review from one sample household, so you can see the method working before you write anything.

  • A weekly planner and monthly check off
  • Weekly and monthly reviews
  • Room cards and troubleshooting

Questions

Before you start

Do I need to print all 32 pages?

No. Start with the start here page, one weekly planner and the minimum day. Print the rest when you reach them.

Can I use it on a tablet?

Yes. You can type in every field in Acrobat Reader, Preview and most PDF apps. It is designed for paper first.

My home is small. Will it still work?

Yes. The rhythms scale down: room a day with shorter days is the default for small homes.

Is there a digital version?

The Notion Cleaning and Chore System uses the same 60 jobs and the same rooms, so the two never disagree.

Can I share it with my family?

Print as many copies as your own household needs. Please do not share the file itself.

Who should skip it

What is checked

Checked on 1 November 2026: the page count, sizes, editions and contents on this page, against the files. It is a general organising tool: use cleaning products only as their labels direct.
